Self Love Saturday: Your inner peace is your authentic power

Self Love Saturday is our weekly series of inspiration to encourage you to love yourself a bit more to become the best version of yourself. Why? Because you deserve it! This week’s topic is all about honing your authentic power that is rightfully yours despite life’s circumstances and maintaining that peace within.

When you have stability of your inner peace, no one can take that away from you. You can go through a storm and have a ton of negativity directed towards you but once you recognise that nothing can alter your inner peace without permission then you can see that nothing can take away your power.

You feel unstoppable when you are authentically powerful. And that doesn’t come from outside validation which can be people’s acceptance and opinions about you, being a certain body weight, money, grades or status.

We live in a society that can sell you this notion that once you obtain all of these things then you will feel powerful but actually, all of things are fleeting and your inner peace is the only stable thing you can maintain during your lifetime.

You can go through a storm and have a ton of negativity directed towards you but once you recognise that nothing can alter your inner peace without permission then you can see that nothing can take away your power.

Here are 3 ways you can achieve more inner peace today:

  1. Understand that your thoughts of yourself serve as the lifeline that will dictate the way you live your life – Try to create a consistent pattern of thoughts towards yourself that uplift you by changing the way you talk to yourself. For example, you may have come out of a job interview thinking you’ve absolutely messed it up and go through a million things you didn’t explain well or what you should’ve said which results in calling yourself a failure. When you find yourself in that thought pattern, pause. Take a deep breath and change the way you articulate that thought to yourself. For example say to yourself “Okay, I failed that question but I’m proud of myself for believing in myself to put myself out there to go after an opportunity I wanted.”. Feel how that energy within you feels so much lighter and comforting when you said that to yourself than heavy and constricting like your negative thoughts did.
  2. Write down 3 qualities that you like about yourself that have nothing to do with external things –  Make a list of 3 things that make you define your character. These can be that you’re a good friend to others, you’re thoughtful, you’re gifted in a certain field etc. Whenever you face an anxiety-inducing situation or where someone tries to tear you down remember these qualities and recognise that no one can take these away from you because they’re define you.
  3. Declare your power  – There will be moments in your life that will make you complete powerless but remember that your circumstances don’t serve as a reflection of who you are. Life is full of ups and downs, but your power doesn’t have to sway with them. Whenever you find yourself in an overwhelming situation, have a quiet moment to yourself and say out loud from the core of your being (I mean, if you’re in public you can whisper this to yourself) “This situation has no power over me”.  You may not feel it at the time but what you say dictates the way you perceive your reality and what it becomes. Visualise a shield around you when you say this to manifest that whatever negativity is surrounding you doesn’t have access to your peace within. Your power is yours, it’s your birthright – and life’s negativity doesn’t have to take that away from you.
